Just realized how many people actually don't know what GOAT means when they see it next to athletes on social media lol. So basically it's an acronym for 'Greatest of All Time' - not literally calling them goats. Wild how this became such a big thing in sports culture.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are THE GOATs in football. Like, these two have been going at it for 20 years straight since they were teenagers, and they basically rewrote every record in the game. To put it in perspective - to match what either of them did, a player would need to score 40+ goals consistently for 17 years while also racking up hundreds of assists and trophies. That's insane. No one had maintained that level of performance well into their late 30s before them.
Interestingly, Messi actually had GOAT embroidered on his shirt during matches after winning everything. Other athletes like Federer, Jordan, and Brady have also claimed the GOAT title in their respective sports, but in football it's pretty much locked to those two. The whole meaning of goat in football really comes down to just... untouchable legacy.
There's been some talk about Erling Haaland potentially breaking their records if he keeps his momentum, but honestly? That's a huge if. These guys set the bar impossibly high. Do you think anyone will ever actually surpass what Ronaldo and Messi have done?
