In August 2025, the U.S. government purchased approximately 433.3 million shares of Intel at $20.47 per share, representing about 9.9% ownership with a total cost of around $8.9 billion.

Today, with the stock trading near $97, the value of this investment has risen to about $42 billion and could reach $45 billion if full acquisition rights are exercised.
The result:
Unrealized gains exceeding $33 billion in just 8 months.
The notable aspect of the deal:
No new funds were injected; instead, previously allocated financings were converted into shares, including:
▪️ $5.7 billion from CHIPS Act grants
▪️ $3.2 billion from Secure Enclave funding
In other words: government support was converted into direct equity ownership, allowing for a strong return as the stock price rose.
