WM cites recycling as a factor in earnings growth

WM (Waste Management Inc.) reported a 13.5 percent increase in net income for the first quarter, attributing this growth to disciplined pricing, cost optimization, and sustainability projects, including recycling and renewable energy. Despite a decrease in the average price received for single-stream recycled commodities, the company’s recycling and renewable energy business units saw increased operating EBITDA due to higher volumes and automation. WM also highlighted the positive impact of its 2024 acquisition of Stericycle and the opening of new recycling facilities, positioning itself for continued financial growth through 2026.
