On May 5, German Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Olaf Scholz called on US President Trump to honor the tariff agreement reached with the EU last summer. Scholz stated, “Europe keeps its promises, and now I hope the US will do the same. Increasing tariffs would harm businesses and jobs on both sides of the Atlantic.” Meanwhile, Scholz made it clear that if Trump raises the tariff on EU car imports to the US from the previous 15% to 25%, the EU will retaliate. He emphasized that EU countries, including Germany, have a clear stance: “We do not wish for the situation to escalate, but we are also prepared to respond if it does.” (CCTV News)
