Can’t take it anymore—suggest renaming the Strait of Hormuz to the Rashomon Strait.

Iran: Fires missiles at U.S. warships.
U.S.: No such thing!
U.S. military: Two commercial ships flying the U.S. flag pass through the strait.
Iran: No such thing!
The UAE says it was attacked by Iranian missiles, so Iran must have been taking action.
And as for the U.S., whether the commercial ships pass through or not, military actions will very likely occur at the same time when they do pass—such as Qing Shui mines. Trump’s so-called escort mission, in essence, may involve attack actions.
But Trump needs to work around a bug—by calling it an escort, it is not subject to the 60-day withdrawal condition in the War Powers Resolution.
Similarly, if Iran really fired missiles at U.S. warships, Trump would also deny it, thereby denying a state of war.
So, both sides are most likely in a kind of covert situation—fighting while negotiating.
