According to three reports from the U.S. side, two American officials stated that the “guidance” operation announced by U.S. President Trump on that day to help stranded ships pass through the Strait of Hormuz does not necessarily include direct escort by U.S. warships for commercial vessels. One official said that U.S. warships will stay in the “vicinity” of the Strait of Hormuz to prevent Iranian military attacks on commercial ships passing through the strait if necessary. The U.S. military will also provide commercial ships with information about the safest routes through the Strait of Hormuz, especially routes that are not mined by the Iranian military. According to three reports from the U.S. side, a senior U.S. official said that the “guidance” operation announced by Trump that day is not about U.S. warships escorting ships, but rather a “mechanism aimed at coordinating maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz,” involving coordination among various governments, insurance companies, and shipping organizations.
