Bessent: If Iranians want to escalate the situation, the United States is also willing to escalate.
BlockBeats News, May 4: U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent said in an interview with Fox News: “If the Iranians want to upgrade the situation, then we are also willing to upgrade. This is a test for Iran—but it’s only a bunch of ragtag pirates. The mosquito navy is being thoroughly crushed. Many ships, possibly up to double digits, have been destroyed, and as for the United States, we only retaliate when we’re attacked.”
Bessent also said that the U.S. is working to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, which is a humanitarian effort. “Many countries have come to find me—some of them are among the poorest, and some are the most vulnerable. They asked us to do so because there is not only energy there, but also fertilizer, food transportation, and liquefied petroleum gas that more than a billion people in India use for cooking,” Bessent said.
