The Swiss government issued a statement on the 4th announcing that, as part of NATO’s Peace Partnership Program, Switzerland is taking part in the NATO “Tiger Meet 2026” multinational joint exercise. From May 4 to May 15, the Swiss Air Force will deploy five F/A-18 fighter jets to Greece to participate in the exercise. The drill will be conducted in realistic scenarios, aiming to compare and enhance the military capabilities of various forces. The exercise also seeks to improve “multinational defense capabilities and develop interoperability between NATO and its partner countries.” Switzerland was recognized as a permanent neutral country at the Vienna Congress in 1815 and, since then, has not taken part in any foreign wars, including the two World Wars. However, after the full escalation of the Ukraine crisis in 2022, Switzerland joined Western countries in imposing sanctions on Russia; the Swiss Armed Forces also issued policy documents in 2023 calling for the federal government to strengthen military integration with NATO.
