Just read about this wild OneCoin case and Konstantin Ignatov finally getting out. So this guy was basically running one of the biggest crypto frauds ever with his sister Ruja - we're talking $4 billion scheme here. He got locked up for 34 months but apparently he'd already served that time waiting for trial, so they just released him in 2022.
What's crazy is how deep the fraud went. Ignatov started as his sister's assistant when OneCoin was booming, then took over the whole operation after she disappeared in 2017. The guy literally lied under oath about ditching his laptop in Vegas, got caught, and still managed to cooperate with prosecutors enough to get a lighter sentence.
The whole network went down though. His sister's still missing and on the FBI's most wanted list. Mark Scott, their lawyer, got 10 years for laundering $400 million. Karl Greenwood, the co-founder, got 20 years - dude made like $300 million off this and just threw it at luxury stuff. Even their compliance officer Irina Dilkinska pleaded guilty.
It's honestly one of those stories that shows how messy these massive fraud schemes get when they finally unravel. Konstantin Ignatov walked free but the whole operation is basically dismantled now. Crazy that it took this long to sort out though.
