Recently, I had to do testing for overseas projects again, and I temporarily needed a bunch of phone numbers for verification codes. Buying SIM cards is too troublesome, so I thought of using virtual number platforms. I've run into quite a few pitfalls before—some platforms are lightning-fast, while others can hold you up for half a day. So I organized a few that I personally tested and found reliable.

Actually, virtual number platforms are services that rent temporary phone numbers to receive SMS verification codes. No need to worry about privacy leaks, and it also saves the trouble of buying a bunch of physical SIM cards. They charge per use or offer monthly plans, depending on your needs. I've tried SMS-Activate and 5SIM; both provide the most stable experience overall, with most messages received within 10 seconds, and they cover a very wide range of countries. If you're mainly using them domestically, Super Cloud SMS and XiaoNiao receive codes quickly, with US number segments usually taking 10-30 seconds to get the message.

There are a few tips for using these virtual number platforms. First, don’t just pick a platform based on cheap prices—reliable and stable platforms are much more trustworthy. Second, if a number doesn’t receive messages, directly switch to a different country segment or change the number with one click; many platforms support this. Third, if you're doing API testing, choose a platform that supports API integration to make batch operations easier. Lastly, these number segments can sometimes be blocked by the target service, so I usually keep a few extra numbers on hand to switch quickly if one becomes invalid.

Honestly, virtual number platforms are very helpful for testing and privacy protection. Just don’t expect to use the same number long-term, as their stability and security definitely don’t match physical SIM cards. Have you used such platforms before? How was your experience?
