Just looked at the latest cost of living data and it's wild how much the most expensive cities in the world cluster in Switzerland. Zurich alone is 12.5% pricier than NYC, and it's not even close—the top six spots are all Swiss cities. Geneva, Basel, Lausanne, Lugano, Bern... they literally dominate the ranking.

What caught my eye is that Switzerland isn't just expensive because of tourism or hype. These cities are actual financial and tech hubs. Zurich's a banking powerhouse, Geneva hosts the UN and WHO, Basel's got the pharma industry. So the high costs actually reflect real economic activity. People working there earn serious money too—Zurich salaries hit 7,000-9,000 CHF monthly, which helps offset the expenses.

The US has a few players on the most expensive cities in the world list too. NYC's the baseline at 100 points, then you've got Honolulu at 94.4, San Francisco at 90.7, Seattle at 86. Makes sense given the tech boom and island costs. Even LA and San Diego squeezed into the top 25.

Interesting that Asia's barely represented—just Singapore, Tel Aviv, and Hong Kong lower down the rankings. Norway's got multiple cities up there, which surprised me. Overall, it's basically Europe dominating the expensive cities conversation, with Switzerland being the clear winner. The wealth concentration in those Swiss cities is just on another level.
