BlockBeats News, May 4 — According to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency yesterday, North Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to recent allegations of involvement in international hacking attacks, calling the accusations false information driven by political motives and an “absurd smear” against the country’s reputation.

A spokesperson stated that the United States is hyping the so-called “North Korean cyber threats” through government agencies, media, and think tanks, aiming to spread false perceptions internationally, and weaponizing cyber issues to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs and infringe on sovereignty. The North Korean side firmly opposes this and said it will take necessary measures to protect national interests.

Previously, North Korea has been repeatedly accused of involvement in several major cyber attacks. On April 18, the DeFi project Kelp DAO was hacked, losing approximately $290 million, with some opinions suggesting that the incident may be related to the North Korean hacking group Lazarus Group.

BlockBeats previously reported that on May 1, TRM Labs’ latest report stated that in April, North Korean hackers stole nearly $600 million worth of cryptocurrency during the Drift Protocol and Kelp DAO attacks, accounting for 76% of the total losses in April. TRM Labs estimates that since 2017, hackers linked to North Korea have stolen over $6 billion from crypto protocols and projects.
