United Airlines Boeing aircraft loses control during landing, crashes into road lamp posts and a tow truck

An American United Airlines passenger plane was preparing to land at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey on the 3rd when it collided with a lamp post on a nearby highway and a moving trailer. The aircraft ultimately landed safely, with no injuries to anyone, while the trailer driver sustained minor injuries. Investigators have launched an inquiry. The incident aircraft took off from Venice, Italy, carrying 221 passengers and 10 crew members. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said the Boeing aircraft struck a lamp post on the highway near Newark Airport at around 2 p.m. local time, causing minor damage to the aircraft. According to statements from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the accident damaged the lamp post and the trailer. The trailer driver was lightly injured, and after medical treatment was discharged. The airport resumed normal operations after confirming the runway was safe. A spokesperson for the New Jersey State Police said the aircraft’s belly collided with the lamp post and the trailer. U.S. media reported that one runway at Newark Liberty International Airport is perpendicular to an adjacent highway, and inbound flights fly at low altitude over the highway to prepare for landing. United Airlines said it is currently assessing the damage to the aircraft, and the crew involved will be temporarily grounded during the investigation.
