Congress Splits on Whether Iran Conflict Triggers War Powers Act 60-Day Deadline

U.S. lawmakers are split over whether the Iran conflict has already triggered the War Powers Act’s 60-day deadline for unauthorized military action. Some lawmakers say May 1 is the deadline because President Trump notified Congress on March 2 that hostilities had begun. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the current ceasefire paused the clock.
