US media interprets Trump's "Freedom Plan" as "guiding" rather than "escorting"
Odaily Planet Daily reports that U.S. media such as The Wall Street Journal, CNN, and Axios have all emphasized that when describing how Trump’s new naval mission will operate in the Strait of Hormuz, he chose the term “Guide” rather than “Escort.” The Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. officials said that the mechanism “currently does not involve U.S. Navy warships escorting ships through the strait.”
CNN cited a U.S. official as saying the plan “is not an escort mission,” adding that the U.S. military will “guide stranded ships.” Axios cited a U.S. official as saying that U.S. Navy vessels will be “on standby nearby” to guard against Iran attacking merchant ships. CNN noted that the plan “leaves many unanswered questions,” and an expert said its purpose is likely to make merchant ships “feel safe.” (Jin10)
