Do you remember the story about the pizza for 10,000 BTC? Turns out, that’s not the whole story. Laszlo Hanyecz, the guy who made that very purchase on May 22, 2010, recently revealed much more interesting details about his journey in crypto.

It turned out that Laszlo Hanyecz spent much more on pizzas than just those famous 10,000 coins. He mined about 100,000 BTC and used roughly half of it on various purchases, including pizza. The other half he gave away, sold, or exchanged for other things. According to him, he made several thousand dollars from all these transactions, enough to buy himself a new computer. “I didn’t hold back and was willing to overpay,” recalls Laszlo Hanyecz.

But here’s what’s interesting – he himself considers the pizza purchase not the most significant moment of his life in crypto. He is much more proud of porting Bitcoin from Windows to MacOS. Can you imagine? Satoshi Nakamoto created all this software on Windows, then asked Laszlo to transfer it to Mac. “He didn’t know how to build a version for Mac. I did that, and my source code was published online,” says Hanyecz.

This is one of those moments in Bitcoin history that is often overlooked. Everyone remembers the pizza, but few know about the real contribution of people like Laszlo Hanyecz to the development of the ecosystem in its early stages.
