On May 4, the Iraqi border port management department announced that 70 tankers loaded with crude oil entered Syria through the Rabia border crossing on the same day. This marks the resumption of this land oil transport route for Iraq after 13 years. The Rabia crossing, located in Iraq’s northwestern Nineveh province, had been closed for a long time since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011 and was just reopened in April this year. The crossing is not far from the oil fields in northern Iraq, including Mosul and Kirkuk.
