This is a story that cost me dearly. I was confident I found a great earning opportunity in the Sui ecosystem. Everything seemed simple: collateral assets, earning interest every day, stable income. I invested Bitcoin and stablecoins, borrowed more than 100,000 Sui, and placed them in Bucket and Scallop to earn high interest.

Every day I withdrew my income — about 160 Sui per day. The income consisted of two parts: a subsidy on afSUI collateral and earnings from stablecoins. It all seemed to work like clockwork. But then I noticed something strange. In the morning, I checked my income and saw only the interest from storage, and the subsidy on the loan had disappeared. At first, I thought it was a bug, refreshed the page several times, but nothing changed.

My first thought was liquidation, but I clearly remembered that five days earlier I had topped up my position with $10,000 to reduce the liquidation line to 0.44. I checked prices on major platforms — they were all above 0.57. I checked my wallet history — no transfers, no theft. But the assets had definitely disappeared somewhere.

It turned out my afSUI had been liquidated. The Bucket team showed me screenshots: I sold 86,566 afSUI, exchanged it for SUI, then for USDC, then for BUCK. The total came to $51,808. The sale price was $0.60 — clearly not a market price. After the soft liquidation, I was left with 33,307 afSUI and $50,400.

While I was figuring out the reasons, the SUI price rose to 0.69, then continued to climb. Now it’s already at 0.93. But the point is, I borrowed these SUI and owe 132,000. In Bucket, I have much less left. The losses are huge — over $13,700.

The project agreed to compensate me only $3,000. Of course, I wasn’t in a position to negotiate, so I took the compensation. At least they acknowledged the problem and showed some honesty, rather than just disappearing.

The lesson I learned — costly but important. Don’t focus solely on interest rates. High returns always hide the risk of losing everything. I’ve been in crypto for a long time, but this reminded me of the main rule: preserving your core capital is more important than growing it. The main amount is your tool for future earnings. If you lose it, there’s nothing left to earn with.

When you play with less-known projects, you need to study their mechanics very carefully. I considered Bucket relatively safe, but that was a mistake. The recovery mode in the BUCK protocol is a safety mechanism, but for users, it can be deadly. I hope my experience serves as a warning to someone.
