I just reviewed the historical sales records of NFTs and it's incredible to see how Pak's The Merge remains the most expensive NFT in the world after all this time. It sold for $91.8 million in 2021, but what's interesting is that it wasn't a single piece, rather nearly 29,000 collectors bought fragments at $575 each. Next is Beeple's Everydays with $69 million, which was a turning point for the digital art market. The fascinating part is that it started with bids of just $100. There's also The Clock, the most expensive NFT that Pak collaborated on with Julian Assange, where the supporter community paid $52.7 million. Then you have CryptoPunks dominating the lists with several examples in the top spots, some reaching $23 million. Honestly, seeing these historic prices makes you think about how the market has evolved. Some of these most expensive NFTs in the world had unique features, strong communities behind them, or simply captured a specific cultural moment. Today, the market is much more mature but less speculative than 4-5 years ago.
