European think tank says Iran conflict impacts energy security or may deepen divisions within the EU over Russia

The European think tank, the European Policy Research Center, recently pointed out that the conflict in Iran is impacting Europe’s energy security, with the disruption of liquefied natural gas supply chains being particularly severe. In this round of Middle Eastern conflict, the world’s largest liquefied natural gas production facility in Ras Laffan, Qatar, was attacked, with about 17% of its capacity damaged, leading to a significant tightening of global supply and pushing up natural gas prices. Against this backdrop, the EU’s plan to reduce dependence on Russian natural gas is being disrupted, and disagreements within the EU over whether to relax energy sanctions on Russia are also likely to further intensify.
