I recently noticed that many people are confused about the concepts of Bitcoin and its impact on the entire crypto market. Let's understand what Bitcoin dominance is and why it is so important for your investments.
Dominance is essentially the percentage that shows how much Bitcoin accounts for in the total market capitalization of all cryptocurrencies. If the dominance is 60%, then 60% of all money in the crypto market is in Bitcoin, and the rest is distributed among altcoins. Simple, but very informative.
Why does this matter? Bitcoin is the king of crypto, and its movements influence the entire market. When dominance is high, people mainly stick to the most stable asset. This usually happens during times of uncertainty or when Bitcoin is actively growing. At such moments, any decline in its value hits altcoins hard — they drop two or three times worse.
And when dominance decreases? It means that money starts flowing into altcoins. People seek higher profitability, so they transfer capital into alternative coins. This period is called altseason — when altcoins show much better results than Bitcoin.
Now for the most interesting part. Many beginners think: why not buy altcoins right now? The logic is simple — if Bitcoin rises to 100 thousand from 65 thousand, you'll get less than 2X. And if some altcoin rises to 5 dollars, you can get 10X. Sounds attractive, right?
But here’s the catch. During high Bitcoin dominance, any correction causes a serious blow to the entire market. If Bitcoin drops by 5 percent, most altcoins will fall by 10-20 percent. And there’s no guarantee that when Bitcoin starts rising again, altcoins will react just as actively. Often, they lag behind.
I'm not saying you shouldn't buy altcoins. You should, but wisely. It’s better to wait for good entry points when dominance begins to decrease and the market is ready for a real altseason. Analyze the charts, understand where Bitcoin will stop after its growth, and only then enter. This will significantly increase your chances of success compared to entering impulsively.
