Just thinking about Laszlo Hanyecz and that legendary pizza trade from 2010... the guy literally paid 10,000 BTC for two Papa John's pizzas when Bitcoin was basically nothing. Like, $25 worth. He just casually posted on a forum asking if anyone would deliver him pizzas for Bitcoin, and someone actually did it. Wild.
So Laszlo Hanyecz got his lunch, sent over the coins from his early wallet, and probably thought nothing of it. Fast forward to now and... yeah, those 10,000 BTC would be worth around $784 million at current prices. I can't even wrap my head around that number. Every May 22, people celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day because of this, and honestly, it's become this bittersweet reminder of how insane crypto has gotten.
Like, Laszlo Hanyecz literally made the first real-world Bitcoin transaction ever. That's actually historic. But man, the opportunity cost... I don't know how anyone recovers from that psychologically. Can't blame him for anything though - back then nobody knew Bitcoin would go this crazy. Still, when you see that pizza day rolls around every year, you just have to laugh at the absurdity of it all.
