According to a report from Iran’s Fars News Agency on March 3, a super-large oil tanker affiliated with Iran’s National Oil Tanker Company has broken through the monitoring blockade imposed by an “offshore naval fleet,” with the tanker carrying more than 1.9 million barrels of crude oil. The report says this shows Iran’s shipping strategy for managing the energy supply chain and evading U.S. Navy monitoring, and once again proves Iran’s practical capability in ensuring the safety of energy transportation. Recently, Iran and the United States have been at odds over oil transport through the Strait of Hormuz, and the U.S. had previously detained oil tankers associated with Iran. According to a message from the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Navy intercepted and boarded two tankers “transporting oil from Iran” in the Indian Ocean on April 20 and April 22, respectively.
