One of Solana's founders states that Ethereum's Layer 2 chains are susceptible to quantum threats
Key Points
Anatoly Yakovenko from Solana warned that Ethereum's Layer 2 blockchains are not secure against quantum attacks.
His comments come as Solana advances in Falcon-512 cryptography.
Meanwhile, Cardano is also working on efforts to combat quantum threats.

Anatoly Yakovenko warns that Ethereum's Layer 2 is facing quantum threats
On May 2, 2026, Yakovenko from Solana wrote: "Ethereum's Layer 2 cryptographic layers are not quantum-safe, so forget all hope." This statement comes at a critical time, as Bitcoin also faces quantum risks. Moreover, his comments responded to a developer update showing that Solana is making progress in post-quantum cryptography.
The update demonstrated work on integrating the Falcon-512 signature verification system, a system resistant to future attacks by quantum computers. Internal activities among Solana clients, such as Anza and Firedancer, indicate that the network is moving toward deploying these protections in production environments.
Criticism focuses on the fact that Ethereum's Layer 2 networks still rely on vulnerable cryptographic systems in the event of a quantum breakthrough. Most user wallets in Layer 2 systems continue to depend on the elliptic curve digital signature algorithm (ECDSA), with the common secp256k1 curve.
After transactions are broadcasted, related public keys can be seen on the blockchain. These keys could be at long-term risk of exploitation if quantum decryption tools are released.
