I just learned about something quite interesting that Vietnam has been implementing since the beginning of this year - what exactly is MIMO? In short, it is a bridge between USDT and VND, developed by Dragon Lab, a tech startup in Da Nang.

The cool thing about MIMO is that it operates on a non-custodial model, meaning the platform never holds your funds. Digital assets always stay in your personal wallet, while VND is kept in your own bank account. MIMO is just a technical intermediary—verifying, checking, and coordinating transactions.

In fact, starting from January 1, 2026, Vietnam officially recognizes digital assets as civil assets under the Digital Industry Law. MIMO is a pioneering trial step, licensed as a sandbox in Da Nang since December last year. I see this as a bold move by Vietnam to legitimize crypto transactions.

The operation method is also straightforward. You need to prepare a bank account, a personal USDT wallet, and an ID card or passport for eKYC. The process includes: registering the app, verifying identity via Viettel/VNPT, linking your wallet and bank, then performing the conversion. From VND to USDT or vice versa, all transactions go through blockchain, and VND will arrive in your account within 5-15 minutes.

What’s notable is that MIMO checks the "cleanliness" of the wallet using blockchain analysis tools (KYT). If the wallet shows signs of money laundering, the transaction will be rejected. The exchange rate is referenced from major exchanges, fixed for 15 minutes to avoid volatility. The basic fee is 2.5%, but during the current sandbox phase, it’s only 0.3%.

However, there are some limitations. MIMO only operates in 3 locations in Da Nang and has not expanded to other provinces. The fees are still higher than traditional P2P, even with current incentives. The eKYC requirements are also quite strict, which may pose difficulties for some users.

Overall, what is MIMO? It is an important pilot aimed at legalizing crypto in Vietnam. Safer than unofficial P2P, transparent, and with Dragon Lab as the responsible legal entity. If the sandbox succeeds, this model could expand nationwide. This is a positive signal for the Vietnamese crypto community.
