Just looked at the latest global cost of living rankings and Switzerland is absolutely dominating. Zurich tops the list at 112.5, followed by Geneva at 111.4 and Basel at 110.7 - basically the entire top 6 is Swiss cities. Living there costs roughly 12% more than New York, which is the baseline they use for comparison.

What caught my attention is how the index works. They measure housing, food, transportation, utilities, and entertainment against NYC's score of 100. So if a city scores 112, you're paying about 12% more overall. Pretty straightforward way to compare the most expensive cities in the world across different regions.

Beyond Switzerland, some US cities are pricey too - New York is at 100 obviously, San Francisco at 90.7, and Seattle at 86. Norway also shows up a lot with Oslo, Trondheim, and Bergen all making the top 25. Singapore represents Asia well at 85.3. Interesting that even with the global economic shifts, these patterns stay pretty consistent.

The most expensive cities in the world seem to cluster around finance hubs, tech centers, and places with strong purchasing power. If you're thinking about relocating, these rankings give you a solid reality check on what daily costs actually look like.
