OpenRouter launches latest alias: a model ID automatically follows the latest version
CoinWorld News, OpenRouter has launched the latest model alias feature, allowing developers to use aliases such as ~anthropic/claude-opus-latest, ~openai/gpt-latest, etc., in API calls. Requests will automatically be routed to the latest version of the corresponding model family without manually updating the model ID. The design draws inspiration from semantic versioning (semver). The first batch of 8 aliases includes coverage for four major providers: anthropic (claude opus, sonnet, haiku), openai (gpt, gpt mini), google (gemini pro, flash), and the Moon’s Dark Side (kimi). ~openai/gpt-latest currently points to gpt-5.5 (gpt-5.5-20260423).
