Abel states that artificial intelligence is expected to help Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway improve operational efficiency
Berkshire Hathaway CEO Greg Abel stated that his team is working on building AI-driven solutions with the potential to enhance the quality and efficiency of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.
Discussing this emerging technology, Abel said, “Undoubtedly, this technology can also be promoted and applied to other business segments under our umbrella in the future. We will independently develop the necessary technical solutions and provide supporting services for our customers. This is a huge challenge, and it cannot be achieved overnight.”
The executive revealed that the company has specifically hired engineers and R&D personnel to develop related intelligent solutions.
The CTO of BNSF Railway is also fully pushing forward the digital transformation process of the business.
This freight railway company has been under pressure in recent years due to declining freight volumes.
To address financial difficulties, BNSF has carried out multiple rounds of layoffs between 2024 and 2025.
