Do you think this is a broadcast rights negotiation? Wrong.

FIFA opens at 300 million USD—then CCTV, in one sharp move, counters with 60 million. Let me tell you: this isn’t being stingy. This is the first time China has dared to slam down the “offerings” of an international sports organization on the ground.
Over the past few decades, we’ve gotten used to being the biggest fools. They treat you as the U.S. and U.K. market—what they want is hard cash, and what they’re eating is your demographic dividend. But they miscalculated one thing: this World Cup has no Chinese team. In a show without your own star, you still think you can sell tickets at sky-high prices?
Remember the era when people puffed up their faces, put on a brave front, and even cried—just to hold a traditional theater-style reception and entertain foreign guests. That era is over. Instead of spending 300 million USD to watch someone else’s celebration, it’s better to take this money and send 150 young ball players overseas, hammering out a blood path. Real strength isn’t being able to buy every expensive ticket—it’s finally having the courage to admit that some of other people’s celebrations are ones we simply don’t need to attend.
