Still think about this one. Nikolai Mushegian, the MakerDAO co-founder, was found dead on Condado Beach in San Juan, Puerto Rico back in October 2022. He was only 29.

The timeline is what gets people talking. Hours before his body was discovered, Nikolai had posted some intense tweets claiming that intelligence agencies and what he called a "pedo elite" were running trafficking and blackmail operations, and that they were coming after him specifically. Then he was found on the beach with a small head wound.

Local authorities ruled it accidental, pointing to the beach's dangerous currents and history of drownings. No signs of foul play in their investigation. But here's where it gets complicated - people who knew him said Nikolai was brilliant but had been dealing with serious mental health struggles. Some in the crypto space, including Brock Pierce, suggested it might have been self-inflicted.

The crypto community never really settled on what happened though. A lot of people found the timing suspicious. His final tweets, the circumstances, the quick conclusion - it all fed into conspiracy discussions that still pop up. The official story is one thing, but questions linger about whether we got the full picture.

It's one of those cases that reminds you how fragile things can be, even for people at the top of this industry. Stay safe out there.
