I wonder, which is the poorest country in the world by GDP per capita? I looked at the latest data for 2025 and found out that. South Sudan tops this sad ranking with just $251 per person. Behind it are Yemen with $417 and Burundi with $490.

Most of the poorest countries are in Africa — Central African Republic, Malawi, Madagascar, Sudan, Mozambique, DRC, Niger, and Somalia. Nigeria, despite its oil wealth, shows $807 per person. From Asia, Myanmar, Tajikistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh are on this list.

The poorest country in the world is indeed South Sudan, where the economy is devastated by conflicts. Next are Yemen and Burundi, also experiencing serious crises. Interestingly, even India, with its huge population, is at the bottom of this list with $2,878 per capita. The figures truly reflect the scale of global inequality.
