Just saw that Elon Musk is launching a free internet feature via SpaceX – Starlink now connects directly to certain smartphones without a separate antenna. I have no idea how many people still need this, but it’s actually quite interesting for remote areas. You can then send messages, share your location, and even make emergency calls, even when there’s no cell tower nearby.

What surprised me: it doesn’t work on all phones. Apple supports it from iPhone 14 onwards, Google with Pixel 9 and the Pro models, Samsung with the A series (A14 to A54) and S21 models, Motorola from 2024 models. So mostly the newer devices.

In the first phase, it’s only for texts, location, and emergency calls. Later, voice and internet calls are supposed to be added – then the internet via Starlink would be practically complete. If you want to try it out, you can register on the official Starlink website. Somehow crazy how the internet is becoming more and more available everywhere.
