North Korean Operatives Used In-Person Social Engineering in $285M Drift Exploit

TRMLabs said North Korean proxies used months of in-person meetings with Drift employees to help execute the $285 million Drift Protocol exploit. TRMLabs’ report released Thursday said DPRK and Lazarus caused 76% of crypto losses to hacks and exploits in 2026, or nearly $600 million this year alone. TRMLabs said the Drift proceeds were converted into USDC, bridged to Ethereum, swapped into ETH, and then left untouched after the theft day.
