North Korea’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated on May 3rd local time that regarding the U.S. claim of North Korea conducting “cyber threats,” recently, U.S. government agencies, media, and conspiracy groups have been sensationalizing the nonexistent “cyber threat” from North Korea, attempting to spread false perceptions of North Korea to the international community. The spokesperson said that the U.S. claims that cyber frauds occurring around the world are all related to North Korea, and instead portrays itself as the world’s biggest “victim,” which is a common point of their unilateral stance. In reality, the U.S. controls global information technology infrastructure, conducts indiscriminate cyber attacks on other countries, yet claims to be a so-called “victim,” which is completely inappropriate. The spokesperson stated that the U.S. hyping up North Korea’s “cyber threat” is a continuation of its historically hostile policy towards North Korea, aimed at spreading false information for political purposes to slander North Korea. This is purely baseless and malicious. The spokesperson said that North Korea firmly opposes and will crush any insincere attempts to use cyber issues as political tools to infringe on sovereignty or interfere in internal affairs. Concerning the intensified confrontational attempts by hostile forces in many fields, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea will never turn a blind eye and will actively take all necessary measures to safeguard national interests and protect citizens’ rights.
