I've noticed that many newcomers in the crypto market often fall for the same trick. It's about a pump scheme for a cryptocurrency, which has long become a classic manipulation tactic in digital assets.
Here's how it usually happens. A group of scammers quietly buys large volumes of some little-known coin, then starts promoting it across all social media and chat platforms. They talk about its potential, upcoming partnerships, that it’s the next big project. People believe them, start buying, and the price skyrockets. And when it reaches its peak, these same scammers dump all their holdings at the highest price. The price crashes into the abyss, and regular investors are left with losses.
How can you recognize this? The first warning sign is a crypto pump without any real news. The coin suddenly jumps in price sharply, and there are no news at all. That’s suspicious. The second sign is a huge spike in trading volume. If both the price and volume increase sharply together, something suspicious is definitely happening.
Also pay attention to the sources of information. If unknown people online actively advise you to buy a certain coin and say it’s the last chance, that’s almost certainly manipulation. Legitimate projects have transparent teams, clear roadmaps, and real use cases. If these are missing, you should be cautious.
How to protect yourself? First, always do your own research. Find out who is behind the project, what they plan, whether they have real support. Second, don’t invest all your money in one coin, especially if you see signs of price manipulation. Diversify your portfolio. Third, trade on reputable exchanges that have systems to detect fraud.
Personally, I’ve long understood that a pump of a little-known token is a red flag. I prefer to follow projects with a real history, active development, and support from serious investors. And I constantly monitor news in the crypto space so as not to miss when regulators start acting against such schemes.
The simple conclusion: be skeptical, research before investing, and remember that promises of quick wealth are usually a trap. In the crypto market, as everywhere, there are no miracles.
