I just realized that many people still aren't clear on how much 1k is in money, so here’s a quick clarification that I thought would be useful to share.
Basically, when you see the letter K on social media or in crypto, it means thousand. That’s it. 1K = 1k dollars or euros, depending on the context. If someone says they earned 10K in freelance work, it means 10k. And if you see 100K, well, that’s 100k.
Then there’s the M, which represents a million. 1M = 1k,000. The difference is quite large compared to K. If you earn 1M, we’re talking about something completely different from 1K. Some also use 5M or 10M to refer to larger figures.
And then comes the B, which is billion in Anglo-Saxon terms (a thousand million). 1B = 1M,000. This is already a scale for companies or large project market caps. When you see that the market cap of something reaches 10B, you know we’re talking serious numbers.
The truth is, once you understand this, reading news about crypto or online businesses becomes much easier. Don’t get confused whether something is worth 1K or 1M—that’s a thousand times difference. Especially in crypto, where you constantly see these numbers in market caps and trading volumes.
If you work on YouTube, freelance, or simply follow the crypto world, these terms will appear all the time. Better to have it clear from the start so you don’t misinterpret important numbers. By the way, if you’re interested in trading, here at Gate there are several interesting tokens to explore while you learn how these numbers work in practice.
