The Malian military claims to have killed over 200 militants
According to Report 2 by Mali National Television, on the morning of the 1st, the Mali military carried out airstrikes against armed groups attempting to launch a new wave of attacks, killing over 200 militants. The report quoted the General Staff of Mali’s armed forces as saying that the military has recently been conducting nationwide clearance operations. On the morning of the 1st, the Mali Air Force targeted a convoy of armed groups that had infiltrated from neighboring countries and were attempting to carry out new attacks. According to an initial assessment by the Mali military, this operation killed over 200 militants, destroyed 4 pickup trucks loaded with heavy weapons, and over 60 motorcycles.
On April 25th, coordinated attacks occurred at multiple locations including military camps, airports, and other military targets in Mali. An extremist group linked to the “Al-Qaeda” organization claimed responsibility, stating that they coordinated the attack with the separatist armed group “Azawad Liberation Front.” Mali’s Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Sadio Camara, was attacked and killed. Since 2012, Mali has experienced ongoing instability in security, with frequent terrorist attacks, armed conflicts, and ethnic violence. In recent years, the Malian military has repeatedly stated that it will continue to combat terrorism and armed groups within the country. (Xinhua)
