Four friends under the age of 30 found Cursor, an intelligent assistant for programmers, and amassed a fortune of $29.3 billion—entering the Forbes list of billionaires.. so how is that possible?

Four friends turned from MIT students into billionaires within just a few years, after founding Anysphere, the developer of the AI programming tool Cursor.

The story began in 2022, when Michael Trewil, Aman Sanger, Sualha Asif, and Arvid Lounimark came together, driven by a shared passion for artificial intelligence. Their first attempt was to develop models for engineering design software, but it failed due to a lack of experience. Instead of giving up, they decided to pivot toward a field they mastered: software engineering.

From here, the idea of Cursor was born—an tool intended to transform the entire programming experience. It was no longer just a traditional code editor, but a smart platform that helps developers write code, modify it, and discover and fix bugs using advanced models from companies such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. And with the launch of its own model, Composer, the company began to reduce its reliance on external parties, strengthening its position in the market.

In just one year, revenue jumped from $1 million to $100 million, then surpassed $1 billion annually. The tool was adopted by millions of developers across roughly 50,000 companies, including Nvidia, Adobe, Uber, and Shopify.

And in November 2025, the company reached a turning point after raising $2.3 billion in a funding round led by Accel and Coatue, bringing its valuation to $29.3 billion. This valuation placed the four founders—all under 30—on the billionaire list, with stakes estimated at about $1.3 billion each....
