Recently, I’ve been messing around with account verification stuff and found that sometimes you really need a temporary phone number. I’ve tried several phone number receiving platforms before, and I’ve stepped on quite a few pits—some platforms don’t receive texts, others are delayed by half a day, which is just frustrating. Later, I gradually found a few reliable ones, and today I want to share these experiences so everyone can avoid the same pitfalls.

Speaking of phone number receiving platforms, they are basically services that rent virtual numbers to receive verification codes. No need to buy new SIM cards, and no worries about privacy leaks, making them especially suitable for registering overseas websites or conducting API testing. These platforms generally cover multiple countries worldwide, charge per use, and some also offer monthly subscription plans. The ones I use most are SMS-Activate and 5SIM; both are the most stable overall, with verification codes arriving within about 10 seconds, and they cover a very wide range of countries.

In China, Super Cloud SMS and XiaoNiao Receive Code work pretty well. US number segments usually receive texts in 10-30 seconds, while Chinese segments are even faster, typically within 5-20 seconds. However, during peak times (especially at night), there can be occasional delays. Super Cloud SMS also supports API integration, which makes batch tasks very convenient. XiaoNiao Receive Code also offers good value; for common applications, verification codes usually arrive within 5-15 seconds, and it supports one-click number switching, which is quite practical.

There are a few things to watch out for when using phone number receiving platforms. Some numbers are shared and can be used by others, so you might encounter "already registered" issues. Verification codes can also be delayed, especially for less popular countries or apps. It’s recommended to choose reputable, active platforms and avoid going for the cheapest options blindly. Also, don’t use these as your long-term main numbers; privacy and security cannot be guaranteed.

My experience is, if you’re just testing APIs, any platform that supports API access is enough. But if you need stable registration on a specific overseas website, it’s best to load multiple numbers so you can switch immediately if one becomes invalid. Getsmscode is cheap, but mainly targets Chinese apps, and may have higher delays for less common platforms. Overall, using phone number receiving platforms can be very convenient if you choose the right ones and prepare backup plans.
