Listen, I recently came across a collection of movies about cryptocurrency and realized that there’s way more content about crypto than I thought. Turns out, besides documentaries about Bitcoin, there are decent thrillers and even comedies on the topic.
I started with the classics — “Bitcoin Banking Operations” (2016), which explains well how everything started. Then I watched “The Rise and Growth of Bitcoin” (2014) — about the early enthusiasts when crypto was still very niche. If you're interested in the dark side, there’s “Bitconned” (2024) about the real scam Centra Tech — that’s some serious stuff.
And if you want more than just documentaries, there’s “Silk Road” (2021) — a crime thriller about Silk Road. In general, even regular TV series have started to include episodes about crypto. In “The Good Wife,” there was a whole episode specifically about Bitcoin, which was interesting to watch as lawyers deal with digital assets.
There’s also “Crypto” (2019) about money laundering and corruption, “Trust Machine” (2018) about blockchain in general — offering a broader perspective, not just about Bitcoin. Surprisingly, even in the comedy “Narcotic” (2015), Bitcoin appears as part of the plot.
Overall, movies about cryptocurrency now cover all genres — from documentaries to dramas and thrillers. If you’re tired of watching charts, you can find something interesting. Documentaries are good if you want to understand the topic, and if you’re just looking for entertainment — something like “Silk Road” or “Crypto” is better.
Have you seen any of these movies?
