Recently, I've been moving funds back and forth between L2 and the mainnet, and my biggest feeling is: saving gas doesn't save money, it saves your mood... A single operation on the mainnet takes forever and is expensive, which really makes people reluctant to move; but for some key actions (large swaps, authorization cleanups, important contract interactions), I still prefer to do them on the mainnet for peace of mind.
For ordinary people, I think there are two compromises: try to avoid doing small, frequent operations on L2, and don't force everything onto the mainnet just for the sake of "ritual"; if you really need to go on the mainnet, handle everything in one go, don't do approvals and transfers separately, just pay the tuition in installments. Cross-chain transfers shouldn't be too greedy for speed; it's better to wait two more minutes and use bridges you understand and have tested yourself.
Recently, the incentive programs and points systems on testnets have become popular again, and people in the group are asking every day, "Will the mainnet issue tokens?"... Basically, it's just betting on expectations. I now just do tasks casually and don't treat future gains as current cash. Anyway, I still believe: in the long run, better experience and lower costs will keep users in the right place. That's all for now.
