Hello! 😎 I want to talk about a scam scheme that is constantly encountered in P2P trading. It’s called a triangle, and if you fall for it, you could find yourself in a very unpleasant situation. But let’s figure out how it works and how to protect yourself from it.
The essence of this scheme, the triangle, is that three participants are involved: you as a P2P trader, the victim, and the scammer themselves. Here’s roughly how it unfolds: the scammer posts an ad, for example, selling an iPhone at a suspiciously low price. The victim finds this ad, agrees to buy, and asks for payment details. Then the scammer approaches you and offers to buy crypto from you, but as payment, gives your bank details to the victim. The victim sends money, thinking they are paying for the phone, you receive the money and send crypto to the scammer. As a result, the scammer disappears with the crypto, the victim is left without the iPhone, and you might face a police visit. 😱
How not to become a victim of such a scheme? First, always check the profiles of the people you plan to trade with. A normal trader should be registered for at least a month and have at least a hundred completed deals. Most P2P platforms provide filters for such checks, use them. Second, be sure to specify in your ad that payment is only from the cardholder, third parties are not accepted. This significantly reduces the risk of falling into a triangle.
If money still arrives from an unfamiliar person, don’t rush to send crypto. Ask for proof, such as a photo of the card or transfer a ruble to them with a comment indicating it’s a debt repayment. Scammers usually disappear immediately when such things are demanded. And most importantly — never transfer money back without coordinating with the platform’s support service. All actions should be agreed upon so you have protection.
P2P trading is a great way to earn, but you need to be careful. Trade only with verified users, set strict conditions, and monitor each deal. If something goes wrong, immediately contact support and open an appeal. Good luck with your trading and stay cautious! 🚀
