Recently, I was pulled into watching a few PFP/member projects again. They keep saying, “Joining the group is co-building the brand.” I find it a bit exhausting just hearing it… Maybe I’m just too steady and cautious—if I don’t have to move, I won’t. As for PFPs, to put it plainly: in the short term, attention is definitely intoxicating. Change the avatar and your sense of identity kicks in immediately. But in the long run, I care more about whether they can spell out the benefits/rights clearly and whether they can keep delivering consistently. Otherwise, once the buzz fades, all that’s left is a picture.

And not to mention that everyone is talking about modularity and the DA layer now, with developers getting really excited, while ordinary users look totally lost. When you tell them “data availability,” they only care about “what exactly can I get” and “will I get ripped off.” I’m the same—I’ve stared at these narratives for too long and my eyes feel sore, and my neck is a bit stiff too. Anyway, I’ll hold off for now. I’ll just see who can turn “membership” into real service, not just a passing gust of hype.
