I just reviewed something interesting about candlestick patterns that many traders don't fully master: the red inverted hammer. It’s one of those patterns that appears right when the market has been falling quite a bit and starts to show signs that something might change.

What happens with this pattern is quite clear if you observe it carefully. You have a small red body, which means sellers pushed the price down. But here’s the important part: there is a very long upper shadow. That indicates that at some point, buyers tried to push the price up aggressively, but they couldn't sustain it. It’s like they’re fighting for control of the market.

When you see an inverted hammer after a prolonged downtrend, especially at a strong support level, it starts to make sense. The sellers no longer have as much strength as before. The price tries to go up, encounters resistance, but there are genuine recovery attempts. That’s what this pattern is telling you.

Now, you shouldn’t trade based solely on this. I always check other indicators before making any move. The RSI in oversold territory combined with an inverted hammer is much more reliable. Support levels also matter: if the pattern appears at a key support zone, the probabilities increase significantly.

I’ve seen this work well on Bitcoin and other cryptos. After significant drops, the red inverted hammer appears, and then, if a green candle follows the next day, it’s quite likely that the market is forming a temporary bottom. But I insist, you need confirmation.

The important thing is risk management. Place your stop loss below the lowest point of the candle. If the pattern fails, at least you know exactly how much you’re willing to lose. And always wait for that confirmation with the next candle before committing to a position.

It’s not a pattern that guarantees anything, but when you see it in the right context, with other indicators aligned and at a support level, it’s definitely worth considering. It’s one of those tools that improves your decisions when combined with deeper analysis.
