I've been thinking about modular chains lately, and what it really changes for end users. To put it plainly, you won't earn an extra dollar just because of "modularity," nor will understanding this term prevent you from getting cut. The real tangible benefits might be twofold: first, when you switch to different applications using the same wallet or habits, transactions are less laggy, cheaper, and there are fewer inexplicable failures; second, applications can iterate faster, so a new feature today can connect to liquidity on other chains tomorrow, making the experience feel more like an internet product rather than waiting in line on-chain.
But it's also quite ironic— the more flexible the underlying layer becomes, the easier it is to copy stories like "social mining," "fan tokens," and "attention as mining." Technology has paved the way, and now it’s just a matter of whether you're being led by emotion again. I myself am now more cautious: when I see a new narrative, I don’t get excited first. I ask myself, "Can I do without it?" If I can, I’ll wait and see, and first set my positions according to my plan, so I don’t let the market’s mirror reflect my anxiety.
