Recently, I've been messing around with virtual numbers again. Honestly, the SMS receiving platforms are really convenient, saving the trouble of buying new SIM cards each time. But there are plenty of pitfalls—some platforms can't receive verification codes at all, others are ridiculously slow. After messing around for a while, I finally found a few reliable ones.
Basically, verification code receiving platforms are services that rent virtual phone numbers from around the world. After registering, you select a country code, enter it into the website you want to verify, and the verification code is displayed directly in the platform's backend. They charge per use, and there are also monthly subscription options, depending on your needs.
I use SMS-Activate and 5SIM the most—they're super fast, usually arriving within 10 seconds, and they cover all countries. Super Cloud SMS mainly provides US and Chinese number segments; US numbers take about 10-30 seconds, Chinese numbers are even faster, typically 5-20 seconds. Bird Code is suitable for domestic app testing, usually no problem within 5-15 seconds, and offers good value. Getsmscode is cheap but mainly targets obscure domestic applications; sometimes it can be slow.
When using these verification code platforms, keep a few things in mind. Some numbers are shared, which can easily be flagged as risky; numbers from less common countries or apps might have delays; it's best to choose reputable providers and avoid just going for the cheapest options. Also, a tip: buy multiple numbers, so if one becomes invalid, you can switch immediately. Some platforms support one-click number switching, which is very convenient.
My advice is, if you're just doing simple interface testing, any platform that supports API access will do. If you need stable registration for overseas websites, it's best to prepare several backup numbers. When you encounter issues receiving verification codes, try switching to a different country segment—that usually solves the problem. Overall, choosing the right verification code platform makes things much easier.
