Specter: Large-Scale Attack on Ethereum Wallets Over 5 Years Old Results in Losses Exceeding $800,000

On May 1, Specter reported that an attack targeting Ethereum wallets created 4 to 8 years ago is currently underway, with losses expected to exceed $800,000. This attack may involve private key leaks, likely stemming from the wallet provider’s compromised private keys, though the source of the leak has not yet been determined. Attackers have stolen assets from hundreds of wallets, depositing 2 Ethereum into exchanges while converting 324.741 Ethereum into Bitcoin through cross-chain transactions. Approximately $66,000 worth of assets remain in EVM wallets.
