According to The Financial Times, Nigel Farage, the leader of the UK Reform Party, has been accused by the opposition of having conflicts of interest. In 2024, Farage received a personal grant of 5 million pounds from crypto investor Christopher Harborne, who lives in Thailand. Since then, in May 2025, the Reform Party has put forward a draft for crypto regulation, promising to cut the capital gains tax on crypto assets from 24% to 10% and proposing the establishment of a national Bitcoin reserve. Farage has acknowledged receiving the grant, while the Reform Party denies that policy-making was related to the donor. Currently, Farage faces allegations of violating the rules of the UK House of Commons; in the most serious case, he could be suspended as an MP and a by-election could be triggered.
