Analysis: Iran Stalemate May Leave Trump in a Worse Position Than Before War

On May 2, foreign media analysis reported that the conflict with Iran has lasted for over two months without any decisive military or diplomatic outcomes. During this time, Trump faces the risk that the stalemate with Iran could continue indefinitely, leading to more severe issues for the U.S. and the world than those present before he initiated this war. Both sides appear confident, believing they hold the advantage and are far apart in their positions, leaving no clear path for de-escalation. Even though Iran has proposed reopening negotiations, Trump quickly rejected this on Friday. For Trump and the Republican Party, the consequences of the ongoing stalemate are extremely serious. If the conflict remains unresolved, the negative impact on the global economy (including persistently high gasoline prices in the U.S.) is likely to continue, putting greater pressure on Trump (whose approval ratings are declining) and making the prospects for Republican candidates even dimmer, especially ahead of the midterm elections in November.
