Just went down a rabbit hole on Pakistani rupee history and it's honestly wild. The 1 USD to PKR journey from 1947 to 2023 tells such a different story than you'd expect.
So back in 1947, when Pakistan got independence, 1 USD was only 3.31 PKR. Stayed that way for nearly a decade - completely stable. Then things started shifting in the mid-50s, jumped to 3.91, then 4.76. But here's where it gets interesting - that rate basically held for like 15 years straight through the 60s and early 70s.
The real depreciation started hitting hard in the late 70s and 80s. By 1989, we're already at 20 PKR per dollar. Then the 90s? That's when things accelerated - from 23 to 31 to 41 PKR. The 2000s brought more pressure, crossing 60 by 2003.
But the biggest shock came recently. 2008 jumped to 81, then 2018 hit 139, and by 2023 we're looking at 286 PKR per dollar. That's an absolutely massive shift from the original 3.31 rate 76 years ago.
What's crazy is how stable it was for so long, then just accelerated. Makes you think about currency pressures, inflation, and economic cycles. The 1 USD to PKR story really shows how much can change over decades.
